Chamaerops Linnaeus is a monotypic genus of the family Arecaceae (palm family), containing a single species: Chamaerops humilis L. It is the only palm native to continental Europe, where it grows around the entire western Mediterranean Basin. Depending on the botanical authority, it may be divided into several varieties or forms, of which var. argentea (syn. var. cerifera) is the most ornamentally sought-after.
